A popular member of the Bengali Sweets assortment and a unique variation of innovative, ingenious in many ways. History has it that this particular much celebrated Indian sweet was incidentally fabricated by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan’s royal chef who was inspired from Persian tradition and local halwais. Over the time, exchange of customs & thoughts led to the local variation in an illustrious extended family of Gulab Jamun, Pantua & Ledikeni. It is believed that this variety of sweet was specifically prepared for and presented to the Countess Charlotte Canning, wife of Charles Canning, the last Governor General & first Viceroy of India, for her birthday.
